My favourite free software
Jun 25, 2008 Software
Here is a list of my favourite free software that I use all the time:

7-Zip is a open source file archiver, and it’s free unlike WinZip and WinRAR

AVG Free is by far the best virus protection I’ve ever used

Spybot is a very good spyware protection, and guess what, it’s free

Free PDF reader and much faster than Adobe Reader

Everyone knows Firefox. It’s the best browser out there!

Thunderbird is an eMail client from the guys who made Firefox

VLC is an open source cross-platform media player that plays every video format out there

Notepad++ is a free source code editor and Notepad replacement
That’s it for today. There are more lists to come!

Nice list. Most of the choices are pretty good, but I would strongly disapprove of Spybot. Yes, it was very good 3-4 years back. But no longer. Its current performance is dreadfull. Yet many people continue to use it because of its old fame.
Personally I would prefer Avira over AVG as all tests and my experience says that Avira has a better detection rate. But AVG is decent though.

Thanks for commenting.
I haven’t tried Avira so I can’t comment on that. But I think that Spybot and Ad-Aware work very well together.
