Microsoft keeps Koobface virus off Facebook
Apr 2, 2009 General
Microsoft is going to be working with Facebook to keep the Koobface virus off the site, the companies said on Thursday.
“In working with Facebook, we were able to add detection of Koobface to our Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT), which checks computers running Windows software to detect and remove viruses” said Jeff Williams, a principal group program manager for the MRST.
“The MSRT has removed Koobface nearly 200,000 times from more than 133,600 computers around the world just in the past two weeks” he also said.
Koobface is a mass-mailing virus that gives Facebook users announcements like “You look funny in this new video” and when the user clicks on the link he is prompted to download a Trojan masked as an Adobe Flash update. This Trojan can then acquire the users Facebook password and other information.

2008 was the biggest year ever for Xbox 360
Jan 7, 2009 General
Microsoft announced that 8 million units of Xbox 360 had been sold in 2008, which places them ahead of Playstation 3.
"For Xbox, 2008 will be remembered around the world as a pivotal growth year at retail and online - even in the face of tough economic conditions," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business. "Worldwide, a record number of players flocked to our broadest games and entertainment lineup ever, while the New Xbox Experience thrilled millions of fans by making our console even more engaging. And yet, we’ve only provided a glimpse into the new world of interactive entertainment that we’re imagining. The best of Xbox 360 is yet to come."

Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta Available July 15
Jun 30, 2008 General
Now that the desktop version of Opera 9.5 has been out for a while you’d be expecting the Mobile version to come soon after, and that’s exactly what’s happening. Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta will be available on July 15.
Opera Mobile 9.5 will have some of the desktop version features, and it will be based on the same browser engine.
What I don’t like is that they say they’re only going to release Opera Mobile for Windows Mobile. That brought up a lot of questions for the commentators as they were wondering if Opera Mobile will be released for Symbian phones also, and no one has given any answers. Symbian has a large market share so it’s weird that they didn’t mention the Symbian version, it’s even a Symbian phone in the banner. I just hope they relaese a Symbian version for Opera Mobile.

Sony has lost over $3 billion on the PS3
Jun 28, 2008 General
You though that you paid too much for your Playstation 3? Well guess what, Sony doesn’t care.
In Sony’s fiscal 2008 annual report they reaveled that they’ve lost $3.3 billion on the Playstation 3 since it’s launch in 2006.
The reason Sony is losing so much money on the Playstation 3 is that they priced the console below its production cost. When the Playstation 3 was first released it cost $599 and that was significantly cheaper than the cost of producing, and now that the retail price has come down Sony is losing even more money on the Playstation 3.

Today is the day that Microsoft’s chairman Bill Gates leaves the company after 33 years in control. Later today Gates will deliver a valedictory address to the company’s employees, all 90,000 of them. Employees around the world will watch via a webcast.
Bill Gates, who is 52 years old, is going to focus on giving away his $58bn fortune. Most of the money will probably go to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a charitable foundation founded by Bill and Melinda Gates in 2000.
